Project Details

BKP undertook the Vice Provost for University Life Master Plan to inform the University of Pennsylvania’s data-driven planning decisions for the next five to ten years. The Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) oversees 32 different departments, enhancing the abilities of nearly 25,000 students and community participants to reach their fullest potential through diverse academic, personal, and professional development experiences. BKP worked with VPUL and its department groups to analyze how each uses current space, to evaluate if they meet current needs, and to identify future needs. Following building walk-throughs and interviews with stakeholders, BKP developed strategic goals and set recommendations based on providing appropriate departmental adjacencies, identifying spatial efficiencies, reusing existing facilities as much as possible, and examining future construction where appropriate. The comprehensive study provided a deep dive into five priority areas: student-facing spaces, wellness program user groups, 3609-11 Locust Walk user groups, the Weingarten Learning Resources Center, and the Platt Student Performing Arts House. BKP developed recommendations for these priority areas focusing on immediate needs and needs to be addressed in the next one to three years. BKP’s 3535 Market Wellness Center project is the first recommended project to be completed.
