Cape May County, New Jersey

Project Details

One of the featured animals at the Cape May Park & Zoo is the African Lion. The intention of the Lion Ridge project is to relocate the animal to a more central part of the zoo while increasing the lion’s habitat enclosure.

Located across the way from the newly constructed Safari Café, and adjacent to the existing Snow Leopard exhibit, is the Lion Ridge project includes a new Lion and Cheetah Holding building with keeper support spaces, a new lion habitat enclosure, a renovated cheetah exhibit, and view shelters.

As guests walk along the main visitor path, they may find themselves walking side-by-side with a lion or cheetah. As guests spill out into the Safari Plaza, they have the opportunity to take shade under the view shelter and encounter close up interactions with the lions and cheetahs. The proposed view shelters provide training spaces and allow the zoo staff to educate guests about the animals, their natural habitat, and the importance of conservation.
