Cape May Zoo Education Building

Cape May County, New Jersey
project categories
Project Details

The intention of the proposed Education Building is not only to create a permanent home for Cape May County Park & Zoo’s education program, but to provide an engaging experience for the public. The proposed building is designed to accommodate offices spaces for the zoo staff, flexible classrooms, holding and support spaces for an outreach collection of birds, reptiles, and mammals, as well as an independent substation for the County Sheriff.

By locating the Education Building on such a prominent site, along Route 9 near the Cape May County Park & Zoo main entrance, the Zoo intends to leverage the building to showcase its recently expanded and improved education programs to reach a greater number of families and visitors interested in learning about conservation and wildlife.

Goals for the project include: a unique indoor and outdoor facility where visitors can learn about science, nature, and wildlife; a location to inspire zoo visitors to care about and respect wildlife while learning about sustainability and conservation; provide a setting where multi-generational visitors can connect, play, and explore in a safe and stimulating environment; and experiences for multi-generational families to create fun, long-lasting memories and becoming life-long zoo advocates.
