New Bridesburg Pool Opens
published June 21, 2019
Crowds were on hand for Bridesburg Pool’s Dedication and Re-Opening Day June 17. Dedicated by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the public pool replaces a much-loved community venue with a modern, accessible version. Bridesburg Pool has been part of the community since 1954. For over 50 years, city lifeguards received their annual training, countless children took swimming lessons, and the pool hosted end-of-season synchronized swim shows.
The pool closed for the 2018 season in order to completely remove and reconstruct a new pool designed by BKP. Where the old pool was enclosed by a concrete wall, the new one opens to the adjacent playing fields – providing improved light, views, and ventilation. A ramp provides wheelchair accessibility to the water. BKP designed a new pump house and storage room as well as new bathrooms that connect the pool deck with the existing recreation center gym. It’s a bright, clean, and fully accessible facility sure to be the site of many more summer memories.
