GRID Magazine features Venice Island
published April 3, 2020
Completed five years ago, an innovative and collaborative project restored Venice Island between the Manayunk Canal and Schuylkill River in Philadelphia’s Manayunk neighborhood. The $46 million Venice Island project revitalized an abandoned, flood-prone site into a vibrant community space and it continues to attract media attention, including a recent article in GRID Magazine. “Storm King” by Meredith Jones highlights the project’s sophisticated stormwater management and four-million-gallon underground water storage tank along with its 250-seat, city-owned community recreation center that hosts after-school programs, special events, and professional theatrical productions.
